| Johnsen, Ronny: 1996-2002
Bought from Bestikas for £1.5 million in 1996, Ronny
Johnsen was a skilful, composed defender who was good
in the air. Another one of Fergie's bargain buys he
had great versatility allowing him to play centre-half,
full-back or midfield - a role he performed magnificently
during Roy Keane's injury in 1997-98.
Johnsen had a great season in 1998-99 and confirmed
himself to be the first choice central partner of
Japp Stam by playing in the Champions League Final
in the Nou Camp. The back four of Neville, Stam, Johnsen and Irwin will always be remembered by United fan's. Ronny also played in all four of Norway's
France '98 matches were his performance against Brazil's
Ronaldo was highly acclaimed.
At United he won three Championship winners medals
and FA Cup and Champions League winners medals during
the Treble season of 1999. On the downside his Old Trafford
career was blighted by injury, Johnsen missed virtually
the entire 1999-2000 season with a condition known
as "Jumpers knee" and then missed most of the following
season when the condition flared up again.
In 2001-2002 he was again struck down by injury.
It was solely because of his poor injury history
that Johnsen was released on a free transfer to
Aston Villa in May 2002.
In February 2005, Johnsen retired only to back track and join Norwegian club Vålerenga.

| Jordan,
Joe: 1978-1981
A
fiece forward with no front teeth Joe Jordan was nicknamed "Jaws" by United fans.
Jordan's bravery, skill and good
aerial ability made him a player
whom defenders found difficult to
cope with.
Signed from Leeds by Dave Sexton for
a then record £350,000 in January 1978 he
made a total of 125 appearances,
scored 41 goals and became a popular
personality with the fans. Hovever United were now trophyless for two seasons and changes where afoot as Ron Atkinson arrived. Consequently in 1981 Jordan was sold to AC Milan for £325,000.
He became the first Scot to score in three World Cup finals when he scored against the USSR in 1982. He returned to England with Southampton in 1984
finishing at Bristol City before taking on coaching roles at Hearts, Southampton and Portsmouth.
